Sometimes Jadyn, my 5 year old daughter, clings to her daddy for all she's worth. She jumps on, wraps both arms around him, and holds on as if life itself depends on it. This usually happens when she's scared, hurt or just wanting some extra assurance of his love.
But sometimes she wants HIM to hold on to HER- to grip her by the arms or legs and swing her or spin her around. She laughs and says, "Do it again, Daddy!" She enjoys playing this way because she trusts him - she knows that he's got her and he won't let go.
God loves it when we hold on to Him. We can cling to him and find safety, comfort and peace.
We can also rest in the knowledge that as we step out to follow His leading, He's got us in the palm of His hand. We may feel called to take risks and try new things, in ministry or in our personal lives. He's there, holding on to us as we take those steps. Even when the hard times come and it seems we're out on a limb, we are in His hands.
His grip on us is solid and we can trust Him to never let go. The Bible tells us in Psalm 135:14 that "God stands up for His people, God holds the hands of His people." (http://read.ly/Ps135.14.MSG)
Life is intrinsically unpredictable. The ride may be wild and full of up upswings and downturns, but through all of it, God's got us.
What in your life has required trust that God is holding you?
